“We strive for magical moments with our horses. Paint, as a medium helps me bring out that magical quality”.
After taking Kwantlen University’s Fine Art & Visual Design programs Vanessa worked as an illustrator and art director for 25 years. Now a painter – Vanessa’s work is focused on horse and rider. Her background in watercolor illustration and a lifelong obsession with learning to ride has led her to create equine and equestrian portraits that are more about what a rider is striving for – not just what is. The paintings are more about the horse but because of the rider.
Her style in acrylics could be termed abstract realism; modern, loose with strong tonal values, limited detail and simplified colour palettes. The composition, colour and the scale of her commissions not only personify each horse and rider but can be designed to suit a particular interior space.
