Charlotte Dujardin and visual cues

Contemporary painting of Charlotte Dujardin riding Florintina - large scale dressage prints by equine artist Vanessa Whittell.

Charlotte came to Vancouver back in 2016 to do a Masterclass put on by Scott Hayes – SH Productions and Piaffe Ltd. This was my first introduction to symposiums with top dressage riders and needless to say it had a big impact!

Visual cues

After that clinic and watching hours of video of Charlotte riding – “Ride like Charlotte” is what I say to myself when I need to get it together; to create a forward feeling connection with short reins, to sit up and stay solid in my core so that I ride independently. This image of Charlotte has become a visual cue.

I believe that art in our homes can give us mental cues every time we look at the art. For riders, any visual cue that reminds us to pay attention to our posture and use our core will help make our position more solid so that we will ride more independently.
